Thanks to the amazing local company Hillside Solutions, we are able to provide a compost drop for the community.
Composting not only significantly reduces your waste footprint. but also makes your zero waste journey a little less… messy. Once you get all those “smelly organics” out of the way – it’s actually fun to sort through the rest (and start assessing the next steps in your zero-waste journey… ? )
We are always ready to talk about compost (and give more details on the compost drop) – so don’t hesitate to ask next time you come in!
What compostable materials are accepted?
Examples of accepted items include:
- food waste (all types, including animal products)
- hair and nail clippings
- pet waste (must be closed up and sealed in a compostable bag) – compostable kitty litter required
- soiled paper (unwaxed)
- tissue paper (also unwaxed)
- lint from dyer (as long as from primarily natural fabrics such as cotton, linen, hemp, etc.)
- single use products labelled “commercially compostable”
Due to size constraints, Exist Green is not able to collect yard waste.
If you have a yard, try using the yard waste throughout the yard or to start your own compost pile! You can still bring commercially-compostable materials to Exist Green, such as compostable “plastics” and animal products that aren’t very successful in backyard compost piles.
For apartment dwellers, we will accept small houseplant
cuttings, etc. (within reason).
Where does the Compost Go?
Hillside Solutions picks it up for processing in Gretna once a week. Your compost will be alongside organic resources from the Omaha Henry Doorly Zoo, local restaurants, and local area schools(to name a few).
