Meyer lemons are likely the sweetest of lemons. It’s thought that long, long ago someone probably crossed a regular lemon with a mandarin or standard orange in China to come up with this fragrant, less acid, slightly sweet, citrus gem. In the early 1900’s, a man named… Meyer… brought a sample plant back to the States (he worked for the USDA), and they have been cultivated here ever since.
Meyer lemons are slightly more round in shape with a vibrant yellow, borderline orange-tinted skin. They provide excellent flavoring to savory as well as sweet dishes, and what better than a glass of water with fresh-squeezed Meyer lemon for a pick-me-up!
