How to Refill at Exist Green
Refilling here is simple. Bring a container, shop by weight, and take home only what you need.
Most Food Filled for You
Bring or Borrow
Most food refills are kept behind the counter so we can keep them sanitary, stored properly, and protected from cross-contamination. We fill those for you, while many home and body refills are self-serve on the floor. You can bring your own container, use one of ours when needed, and buy only what you need. We’re always happy to help.
How Refill Works, Step by Step
Bring Your Own, or Borrow if Needed
Bring clean containers from home. If you forgot one, grab a free sanitized community jar when we have one. Coming soon, the Earthies™ 🌎✨ Reuse Library will offer a more standardized reusable option designed for repeat circulation.
Weigh + Tag Containers
Use the big scale near the front of the store to weigh any empty containers you brought and add a weight tag to each. Community jars are already sanitized, pre-weighed, and tagged by our team, so those are ready to go.
Bring Food Refill Orders to the Counter
Bring your weight-tagged containers intended for Grocery and Herbals to the counter and place your refill order. Ordering guides and printed menus are available in the store, and you can also plan ahead by browsing online. While we fill your order, keep shopping.
Refill Personal Care + Cleaning Essentials
Fill soaps, shampoos, lotions, laundry, and household cleaners in the self-serve area. Add the product code tag to each item. We’re always happy to walk you through it, or to fill any self-serve item for you if you prefer.
Pick Up Your Filled Food Items + Check Out
Pick up your filled food items from the counter and bring the rest of your items to checkout. Each container you filled yourself should have a weight tag and a product tag on it to help us ring you up accurately. Do not scan or replace the weight tag after filling. It needs to stay as the empty container weight (tare).
Reuse, Return, Repeat
Bring those same containers back next time and refill again.
Donating jars? Please bring them to the donation area rather than placing them directly on the community jar shelf. We sanitize every donated jar in our commercial dishwasher’s high-temperature cycle (no chlorinated chemicals) and prep it before it goes back into circulation.
The best container is usually the one already in your home

The simplest refill system is often the best one. Bring back the same clean container from home and use it again and again. That keeps useful materials in circulation longer and makes reuse part of everyday life. It is also why we reward bring-your-own-container shopping with extra Earthies™ 🌏✨.
Forgot your container? You can still refill. Grab a free community jar when we have one. Coming soon, the Earthies™ 🌍✨ Reuse Library will offer a more standardized reusable option designed for repeat circulation.
Both will help make refill easier in the moment, but the Reuse Library is being designed to hold up better over time, for both the customer and the system.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need to bring my own jar?
No. You can bring a clean container from home, or grab a free sanitized community jar when we have one.
Can someone help me the first time?
Absolutely. We’re always happy to walk you through the process, and we can also fill any self-serve item for you if you prefer.
How do you handle the weight of my container?
Every container that gets filled here needs a weight tag so we can subtract the empty weight at checkout and you only pay for what you fill. Containers from home should be weighed on the big scale near the front of the store before you shop. Community jars are already sanitized, pre-weighed, and tagged by our team.
Can I fill my own jars and bags while I shop?
Yes. Please fill the jars, bottles, and cotton bags you brought to refill, and carry them in whatever suits you. Just please keep unpaid items visible, not tucked into a purse, pocket, backpack, tote bag, or anything else concealed. Store baskets and mini carts are available near the entrance.
Can I donate jars while I’m here?
Yes, but please bring them to the donation area rather than placing them directly on the community jar shelf. We sanitize every donated jar in our commercial dishwasher’s high-temperature cycle (no chlorinated chemicals) and prep it before it goes back into circulation.
