Butter & Lye Face and Body Bar Soap is made using traditional cold-process methods and certified organic plant oils. Developed by biochemist and founder Monique Kofsky, these unscented bars are formulated to cleanse effectively without stripping the skin. Now packaged in recyclable cardboard boxes.
The base formula uses certified organic sunflower oil along with coconut, castor, olive, and shea oils. In cold-process soapmaking, plant oils are transformed through saponification into soap and naturally occurring glycerin. The finished bar does not contain free dietary oil. Much of the public discussion around “seed oils” centers on highly refined industrial cooking oils, which is a different context than traditional soapmaking with certified organic oils for external use. Choosing organic oils supports agriculture that avoids synthetic pesticides and synthetic fertilizers.
