Unearth Malee

Unearth Malee creates organic, palm oil–free soaps and shampoo bars in small batches in Claremont, California. Each bar is cold processed and hand-cut, built from certified organic vegetable oils rather than pre-made melt-and-pour bases or synthetic additives.

Palm oil has never been part of their recipes. From the start, the brand chose to formulate without it in order to raise awareness about rainforest destruction in Indonesia and Malaysia and the resulting impact on endangered orangutans. A portion of proceeds supports orangutan conservation efforts.

Formulas are vegan and made without synthetic fragrance oils, SLS, parabens, or chemical preservatives. Most recipes are composed of at least 84% certified organic oils, with some nearing 96%.

The brand’s name comes from founder Marie “Malee” Pechkam’s Thai heritage. “Malee” means jasmine flower in Thai, and that cultural influence shows up in the botanicals, herbs, and sensory experience of each bar.

Packaging reflects the same level of care. Soaps are wrapped in plantable, wildflower-seeded lotka paper, with paperboard packaging and compostable, cellulose-based shipping materials.
