Butter & Lye Nourishing Body Bar Soap is filled with hydrating butters like shea, mango, and cocoa butter, creating a richer lather that leaves skin feeling noticeably softer after rinsing. Crafted using traditional cold-process methods and certified organic plant oils, these body bars are developed by biochemist and founder Monique Kofsky with a focus on ingredient integrity and simple, effective formulations. Now packaged in recyclable cardboard boxes.
The base formula uses certified organic sunflower oil along with coconut, safflower, and castor oils. In cold-process soapmaking, plant oils are transformed through saponification into soap and naturally occurring glycerin. The finished bar does not contain free dietary oil. Much of the public discussion around “seed oils” centers on highly refined industrial cooking oils, which is a different context than traditional soapmaking with certified organic oils for external use. Choosing organic oils supports agriculture that avoids synthetic pesticides and synthetic fertilizers.
