French Green Clay

French Green Clay is a mineral-rich cosmetic clay sourced from naturally occurring deposits in France. Quarry mined and untreated, it has a soft texture and naturally light green color that comes from iron oxide and decomposed plant matter. It is sometimes also called sea clay.

Often used in face masks, spot treatments, soaps, and scalp or body care recipes, French green clay is especially popular in formulas for normal to oily skin because it helps absorb excess oil and leaves skin feeling freshly cleansed. Mountain Rose Herbs notes that it is intended for external use only, and that properly stored clay may keep indefinitely.
