hair styling
Hold without petroleum. Conventional styling runs on petroleum polymers, silicones, and aerosol cans; this shelf gets the same jobs done with botanical gums, plant oils and waxes, clays, and powders, refilled by weight.
Washing, conditioning + treatments live in Hair Care (in the store, a few shelves to the left).
- aerosol cans, PVP and acrylate polymers, silicones, and synthetic fragranceacacia gum, plant oils and waxes, clays and botanical powders that wash out clean, refilled into your own container
- Ties + toolsHair ties. Organic cotton and fair-trade natural rubber (a note for latex-sensitive customers), at more than one price point.Combs, brushes + picks. Bamboo, neem wood, and brass, each chosen for a job: detangling, parting, thick and curly hair, beards.Every component counts. We review pins, cushions, bristles, and finishes, not just the handle. Our bamboo brush uses a beeswax finish: durable and mostly plant-based, but not vegan.
- chemical-free promises and undisclosed parfumplain talk: named botanicals, full ingredient lists, and unscented options
Plant-based has to perform: hold that holds, washes out without residue, and works across hair types and textures. A green claim never excuses a product that styles poorly.
How to shop
You should not have to read the label. We already did. Every product here was reviewed before it reached the shelf: the full ingredient list, where each ingredient actually comes from, the packaging, and whether it genuinely works. Where a real tradeoff exists, we name it on the product rather than bury it. Looking for something we do not carry? Tell us, and we will go look into it.
