Bamboo charcoal naturally removes impurities and improves the taste of tap water. The same sticks last for months. Every 4 weeks, give them a fresh boil and sun-dry to renew their filtering power. When they eventually break down or turn to powder, they make excellent compost. No plastic bottles, no replacement filters, no waste.
Before first use, rinse the sticks, boil for 5 minutes, and dry in the sun. Add 3 pieces to a one-liter container of tap water (more for larger containers), let stand for 1 hour, then drink. Every 4 weeks, recharge by repeating the boil-and-dry step. The same sticks can keep filtering for months, until they physically break down.
