White Sage Leaf, Sustainably Cultivated
$4.50 / oz
Cultivated white sage, loose leaf.
white sage poached from wild stands already stressed by drought and habitat loss
certified organic sage cultivated on a farm so wild populations can recover
White sage (Salvia apiana) is native to a small region of southern California, where wild populations have been hit hard by drought, habitat loss, and commercial overharvesting for the smudge-stick market. Choosing certified-organic cultivated sage relieves pressure on wild stands so this important plant can recover.
We sell it as loose leaf rather than pre-bundled sticks. The bundled form has roots in Indigenous ceremonial tradition, and we’d rather leave that aesthetic to those communities. Loose leaf gives you the same plant to use however you’d like.
Botanical: Salvia apiana (Lamiaceae). Common names: white sage, California white sage, greasewood.
Burn as incense, use in dried arrangements, or for your own personal practice.
